The Clydesdales Restaurant in Windsor - Clydesdales Restaurant
Found in New South Wales, Australia, is a dining experience like no other. Like food? Like horses? Here's the ultimate horse related experience!

Whether breakfast, lunch or dinner, this mobile restaurant has plenty to offer. Located in Windsor, New South Wales, is the unique Clydesdales Horse Drawn Restaurant. Originally started in 1996, the idea was to reintroduce the heavy horse to the historical region of Hawkesbury. From here a unique business idea formed.

Recognised as the ‘birthplace of the great Aussie Draught Horse’, the idea of a travelling horse-drawn restaurant was considered to be an impossibility. Fifteen years later, this unique idea has won multiple awards and even has a sister restaurant in the state of Victoria.

A Tour Around the Historical Hawkesbury Region

Tours range from an hour for breakfast, an hour and a half for lunch and up to 3 hours in duration for a 5 course dinner. All meals are provided by local award-winning restaurants and are served from their kitchen to the carriage whilst on the tour.

Over the duration of the 3 hour dinner and carriage ride, guests are given the opportunity to take in certain places of interest within the town. These include:

  • Windsor Court House, circa 1822
  • St Matthew’s Church, circa 1820 and the surrounding cemetery

Looking to combine great food, interesting history and some wonderful horses, the Clydesdales Horse Drawn Restaurant has a trusty team of 3 Clydesdale geldings. They are known as Banjo (8), Harry (4) and Charlie (7).

Organising a Tour

Bookings are recommended as there is limited space on the carriage. Prices vary depending on the length of the tour and time of day. A two-course breakfast tour is $80, whilst lunch is $125 for starters, mains, dessert and drinks throughout. Dinner is $190 per person for the 5 course meal and 3 hour tour, or $165 per person (groups of 6 or more), for a 3 course meal over 2.5 hours.

It is possible to purchase gift vouchers if considering this unique idea for the horse enthusiast who also happens to be a history buff. For those who are thinking a little more along the lines of romance and a carriage all to themselves, proposal packages are also available.

Whatever the reason, there are varying packages to suit the individual. The Clydesdales Horse Drawn Restaurant in Windsor is indeed a unique idea that has proven to be a real gem for the Hawkesbury Region. If ever near to the area, perhaps this unique experience would be worth booking in and checking out. This is definitely one for the horse lover's bucket list.
