Written by Camille Matthews and illustrated by Michelle Black, the books in the Quincy the Horse series are bound to captivate young children.

Written in short, simple sentences, the Quincy the Horse series introduces readers to a little red horse.

Quincy Finds a New Home

In this first title, the reader learns about Quincy’s home and the beautiful surrounding countryside. Camille Matthews writes from the point of view of Quincy himself, informing young readers how a horse might feel about his life, surroundings, and changes. A simple 40 page story, Quincy Finds a New Home teaches children that the most important thing in life is to be loved and be a friend.

This book received a Pinnacle Book Achievement Award for 2009, in the Juvenile Fiction category. In 2010, it was the gold recipient of the Mom’s Choice Award for the growing up / personal growth section. This award program works to recognise authors that create products that are of quality and family friendly.

Quincy Moves to the Desert

The second book in this series invites readers to learn about some of the states of the US and the unique breeds of horses that live there. Quincy, along with his mentor Beau, takes a trip out to the desert in New Mexico.

These books are aimed at 4 – 9 year old children. Whether read to them by someone older for story time or read by the individual child, they are bound to be well received. All readers will delighted by the incredibly lifelike illustrations that match the story. Both books are presented in picture book format, with text on one side of each two-page spread and a full-colour descriptive image on the facing page.

The Author and Illustrator of Quincy the Horse

Both author and illustrator of the Quincy series are very familiar with horses. Author Camille Matthews is a lover of the American Quarter horse and an avid trail rider who also provides Equine Assisted Psychotherapy to individuals. Illustrator Michelle Black has a background in training riders for dressage, consults on horse nutrition and advocates the practice of barefoot trimming for horses.

If looking for a keepsake or two to buy for children, these hard cover Quincy the Horse books are well worth the investment. With simple but effective wording and lifelike illustrations, children will delight in learning more about the ‘little red horse with a coat the colour of a new penny’ and his adventures.
